- Read the "Code of Conduct and Tournament Rules Guide".
- If you are a first time TD in Cases, read the "New TD Guide" also.
- Contact any HTD or Admin and tell them you have read the guide(s).
- You may be asked a few questions to see if you did read it and then you are put on active status.
- When you make your first tournament, please copy and paste the HTML of rules at bottom of this guide onto your rules page and save it as your default.

This guide was created from scratch by the Pool Legends staff. Any parts of this guide may not be re-used without the permission of the Pool Legends Head Admin.
Introduction
Becoming a staff member of Pool Legends is a great privilege. Pool Legends is a league that has grown tremendously since the league started on March 4, 2005. We wish to keep up all of the hard work that everybody, past and present, has put into Pool Legends.
We have high standards for our TD's and these standards are in effect for ALL TD's. Please read the "New TD Guide" if you have no previous experience running Cases/MyLeague tournaments. Experienced TD's should know what is on the TD guide but may want to look at it because you are responsible for it also!
These are the default rules and are to be used in all tournaments. TD rules should not vary by TD!!!
If a tourney type is not listed on here, you can NOT run it.
Tournaments may be combined as long as they are on the guide. For example, you can have a "Scratchless and Bank the 8/cue" tournament and the rules would be combined with you must bank the 8 or cue into the 8 and if you scratch at anytime during the game, you lose. PL is always open to learning new tournaments and adding them to our rules. However, there are a few that are banned. These include "Magic Bootem" and "Survivor". The reason for this is that players do not control their own destiny and we received too many complaints. Please see an Admin if you have a new tournament you wish for us to review and possibly add to our list of tournaments.
Pool Legends Tournament Setup
There are two different types of tournaments in PL, REGULARS and FAST FOURS. A Regular is a tournament that the TD tries to get in as many people as they can. A Fast Four is a tournament that only has 4 people in it and closes immediately. The purpose of these rules are so members who like non-stop tournaments can join Fast Fours and people who like bigger tournaments can join the Regulars. Here are the general rules for each:
- Regular Tournaments
- Regulars may not be overlapped. This means that a regular can not start until the previous Regular has completed the final round and distributed bux.
- The next Regular may be spammed as soon as a current Regular begins. It is suggested that the next Regular be spammed as soon as possible after the current Regular begins to increase the chances of a bigger tournament. This means that a Regular and a Fast Four may be spammed at the same time.
- Before beginning a Regular tournament, please ask if there are objections to close or if anyone else would like in the tournament.
- A regular TD should be the only one using CAPITAL letters in the lobby.
- Fast Fours
- Fast fours can be hosted at ANY time.
- Fast Fours are to start immediately once 4 are in. There should be no waiting or asking for objections.
- Fast Four spams must be 4 lines or less.
- Fast Four tournaments must have "FF" labels in the tournament spam and title of tournament page.
- Only 1 Fast Four may be spammed at a time.
- You may have more than 4 people in a Fast Four if someone sneaks in. Do not remove extras.
- Fast Fours are on a first come, first served basis. If someone asks to have the next, please let them have it but generally speaking, the first person to spam a FF is the first person that gets to host it. You do not need to ask to make a FF.
- Please use lower case letters when hosting Fast Fours.
- GENERAL RULES
- All TD's must have a working TD email account. We frequently send out TD letters that are MANDATORY to read. You are responsible for knowing what are in the emails.
- You need to be available to members especially to new members. If you are unable to help someone, then have another staff member help them.
- We encourage you to have a league spam that has our league address and some helpful information. This could include how to sign up, a slogan, and/or facts about us. When a person asks what league is in the room, anyone can spam their league spam.
- All TD's must have tournament rules on their rules page. We have made this very simple for you by putting all the rules together. Copy and paste the html of rules at the bottom of this page into your rules (Customize Tournament Rules) on your TD page and click the box that says save as your default.
- You need to be professional in what you do at all times. We still encourage you to be yourself at the same time. Try not to push members away or be derogatory at other staff members.
- Treat everybody the same and treat everyone how you wish to be treated.
- If you report a tournament match incorrect and close your tournament you need to do 2 things. First, in your TD menu, click "Tourney Support" and fill out the information. This will be sent to Cases and they will adjust the tournament ladderbux. Secondly, you need to contact an Admin and inform them. Only Admins can fix the ladderstats. If ladderbux are not involved in the tournament, you just need to contact an Admin. Once everything is corrected, it will not change on your tournament page, only in the individual player statistics.
- Try to avoid canceling tournaments. Cases frowns upon canceling tournaments. If you can not get enough players, please postpone your tournament instead of canceling. To postpone all you do is announce in lobby its postponed, remove the players in it already, and close check-in. Then when you want to host a tournament in the future, go to "administer" tournaments instead of create and use that jump. If you have at least 4 in a tournament and have to leave the room, simply find a HTD to take over for you.
- Always ask in the lobby if anyone has the next tournament. When you want to host, you should be aware of what is in progress at the current time so you know what is best to make (regular or fast four). Of course sometimes, it is nice to ask what type of tourneament members want but for the most part, you should just make what you wish to run. Also, you should ask the current TD of the regular tournament if it is ok to spam. If the TD has not responded, an admin or HTD may tell you that you may spam.
- Pool Legends encourage good sportsmanship but at the same time we do not force it. As a TD, you should never request, demand or hint that someone rerack due to an early 8 or failure to follow the tournament rules. If they make the 8 early or, for example, don't bank the 8 in a bank 8 tournament, they lose! Reracks are only available if the player that wins offers one. The person that lost should not ask or request one or make the winner feel guilty about taking a win. There is no limit to the amount of re-racks a player can offer in a tournament. You may decide to make 2 players rerack in your tournament if there is a problem and the only fair thing to do is to re-rack. Please note that we as a league feel that that taking a early 8 is NOT bad sportmanship because it is part of pool.
- In the event our room is unable to be played in, you MUST ask an Admin before changing rooms. TD's who do not get permission, will be penalized. Remember, often times the admins are invisible on Yahoo Messenger.
- We do not allow offensive material of any kind of tourney pages. This includes full nudity, partial nudity and pictures depicting anything involving sex, alcohol or drugs.
- Due to TD's representing PL with their actions, admins reserve the right to box a TD for something that may only get a warning a regular (non-td) member. For example, typically an "F-bomb" gets a warning the first time and the 2nd time it is said, they are boxed. TD's could be boxed the first time.
- If you are boxed as a TD, you are NOT allowed to host while you are in the box. You will be placed on Vacation status as TD.
- We ask that all TD's stay under 30 days idle. This is very leniant compared to other leagues. You may ask an admin to place you on vacation at any time and then you will not be removed. We just need to be informed of what is going on. If you are over 30 days idle, we will send you an email giving you a certain amount of days to inform us of why you need vacation or to make a tournament. This may vary. A TD with 5 tournaments would not get as much time to respond as a TD with 200 tournaments. Finally, a TD that gets accepted and makes no attempt to contact an Admin to get activated or host their first tournament within 2 weeks of acceptance, will be removed.
- GENERAL TOURNAMENT RULES
- Ensure games are played on rated, protected tables. (Unless a tourney requires it as something else)
- If a player is not in the room, idle in the room, or gets booted during their match, timers are assessed at the request of the opponent. The opponent must invite you to a table (to prove they tried to invite opponent). An example of a timer is "@05 on sexxxy_luckydog17" with the minute it is given on and the player id. Try to find that player if possible (on YM or something) during the timer. Timer lengths vary for each tourney. They are the following:
- Regular tournaments - 7 mins
- Regular tournament finals - 10 mins
- All boot'em tournaments - 5 mins
- All fast fours - 5 mins
- In the event two people playing each other time out, the person who registered for the tournament first advances. They are then put on another timer next round.
- Timers are non-continuous meaning that if someone is put on a timer a 2nd (or more) time it starts over and they are given the full amount of time to get back.
- Timers may be assessed at any point in the tournament. One can be put on someone in round 2 even though there is a round 1 match in progress in the tournament.
- If you’re invited by a player that is in your tournament, please accept and attend to that player.
- It is strongly suggested that TD's watch your finals table. You can either invite your players to finals or have them invite you if you wish.
- "Good game" (gg) may not be said before the 8 ball is potted. Also any forfeiting (a player forfeiting opponent or a player forfeiting themself when opponent is about to win) is against the rules. If done, please give a warning to a player. If repeated, that player faces a penalty from an Admin.
- Players in your tournament should not shoot if their opponet is on a timer or not present unless they have asked you to witness it. If they have an easy run or are on the 8 ball, they may ask for you to witness so they have proof when the opponet returns. Finishing a game with opponet missing and without the TD requested to witness results in a re-rack of the game. Players should keep in mind that sometimes when they are booted, their avatar and name remain in the room and it is not known they are not present.
- No "subbing" is allowed in PL team tournaments. If your partner has to leave, you are all alone. Also, no coaching at the table/lobby is allowed in PL team tournaments. In all "best of" team tournaments, a timer will be applied each round to the missing person. If they do not return, that team starts 0-1 but is allowed to continue. This includes bigger team tournaments. In "Shoot til Miss" or "Shoot and Stand" 2v2 tournament, if one partner is not present, the team gets a timer and is NOT allowed to continue with one person. If the opposing team is nice enough to allow it, the one person may continue. If this is the case, each opponet must be asked before each round. In bigger teamers (3v3, 4v4, etc.) that are "Shoot til Miss" or "Shoot and Stand" you are allowed to continue as long as you have OVER 50% of your players there. For example, in a 3v3 you would need 2 players present, in a 4v4 you would need 3 players present, in a 5v5 you would need 3 players present, and in a 6v6 you would need 4 players present.
- SPECIAL EVENT RULES
- Fast Fours
- Fast fours are quick 4 person tourneys that help members stay active and not be bored. PL's rule is that fast fours can be made at any time in the day with a few rules in regards to that. Only ONE fast four may be spammed at a time. You may make as many as you can fit in but only one is allowed to be spammed at a time to give all TD's a chance to host some. Please see the Fast Four rules listed above.
- Marathon Days
Pool Legends host a "Marathon Day" on the last Saturday of each month. The purpose of these are to challenge the TD's to see how many tournaments we can host in one day. To help with this, we limit the rules for these days. We currently hold the all-time Cases record for tournaments in a day with 522 set on May 26, 2007.
- Each TD is only allowed to spam up to 2 tourneys at a time (Example: 3 td's could spam at a time with 2 each having 6 spammed tourneys). This does not mean you can only have 2 open tourneys, it only means that 2 can be spammed at at time.
- We only allow ONE line spams for Marathon Day. If you have 2 tourneys to spam they both must fit on that one line! We do this so the lobby is open for reports.
- League address spams may be your normal ones in length.
- Please be courteous to all your fellow TD's! If another TD needs jumpers help them out! You can't expect for people to jump your tourneys if you do not jump theirs.
- TEAMWORK IS THE KEY TO MARATHON DAY!!!!
- SPECIFIC TOURNAMENT RULES
- Weeklies
- If you are interested in hosting a weekly, contact an admin to get on the waiting list. If you are a TD that is lucky enough to be in charge of one of PL's weeklys please make sure your tourney is made at least 24 hours in advance. For weeklies, we ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your weekly is supposed to start. If you can not make it or will be late please try to notify a HTD or admin or post on the tagboard so it can still be run for you. Real life stuff happens and you can not always make it but there is NO reason that your tourney should not be on the calender because you can make your tourney 6 days in advance if need to. We ask that the tourney be on the calender so that no tourneys are made in this time slot instead of the weekly and everybody is aware that it will take place every week. Also, it is easier for a HTD to run it than have to make it and run it. If you fail to not make your tourney 3 times or more you are subject to losing your weekly unless
you've notified an admin of a problem. Finally, please update the weekly page with the winner and runner-up that we have given you when you get your weekly!

- You must sink your balls in this order, Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, and Yellow. (Alphabetical order)
- If you sink the wrong ball, give opponent ball in hand
- If you sink one ball in the right order and another goes in, it is still your turn.
- 8 ball is still to be sunk last
- Arabian Pool
- Played on rated / protected tables
- When you get to the 8 ball, your opponent will call the pocket that you have to make the 8 in
- This remains the designated pocket for you for the remainder of the game
- Banks & Combos
- Every ball you make must be made by a bank shot or a combo shot.
- A bank shot is when you bank the ball off an opposite rail of the pocket it is going into or bank the cue ball off an opposite rail of the pocket you are making a ball.
- A combo is when you use another ball to make a ball. The ball you make must not be the initial ball you hit. Example: You hit the cue ball into the orange ball and the orange ball hits the blue ball and sinks the blue.
- If a ball goes in without doing either of these, you must tap and give opponent BIH.
- Bank A Specific Colored Ball
- You must bank the color ball the TD specifies.
- If your opponent makes that ball for you or you make that ball on the break then you do not have to bank. Otherwise, you must bank or you lose!
- Cue banks do NOT count on the color ball you must bank
- If you scratch while banking your ball in - it still counts and your bank is legit.
- Bank One Ball (And Call It)
- You get to choose which ball you want to bank in this tourney.
- You MUST CALL the ball and pocket before banking for it to count. Example: Red, top right.
- You can change the ball you want to bank if you miss as many times as you want.
- Cue banks do NOT count.
- Your bank still counts if you scratch unless it is the 8 ball

- They sit at table, click the cue, and shoot.
- Shoot Once then stand, if you miss you are booted.
- Do not move the cue unless someone scratches then you place cue to the left of the line and shoot to the right.
- After a scratch, the next players shot must have the cue go to to the right side of the line before sinking a ball. If the only ball(s) left were to the left of the line, you would have to bank off a rail first to get the cue to the right of the line before making a ball!
- It is common courtesy to type "shot" after you shoot so everyone knows who is next.
- Boot’em - BOMB NEW!!
- Played the same as a regular bootem (miss or scratch = you're out) with the exception being you can not touch the 8 ball.

- The cue ball scratching in the forbidden pocket does not count as an auto-loss unless of course it's with the 8 ball.
- Four Corners
- You must pocket all balls into the 4 corner pockets. In other words, you cannot use the two middle pockets!
- If you make one in the middle, you must tap to your opponent and give them Ball In Hand. If you make one in the middle while making one of yours in the corner, then you can continue shooting.

- Full Power
- You must use full power on all shots.

- Failing to have correct English, will result in you giving BIH to your opponent by slightly tapping the cue.

- The only BIH is when your opponet scratches.
- The 8 can go in any pocket and scratching on the 8 is a loss.
- Players Choice
- Before the matches the two players choose what kind of match they both want to play. Match has to be agreed on by both players.
- If you have any problems invite the TD.
- Rack Runners
- All matches are played on training tables. It does not matter who goes first but if you can not decide the player with higher yahoo rating chooses who shoots first.
- Player 1 sits and breaks as normal (random, from the left of the line). Continue shooting until the player misses or scratches (EXCEPTIONS: Continue shooting after a miss on the break. If a player scratches on the break, rerack with no penalty).
- The total number of balls sunk is the players score for that turn. Both players get a certain number of turns (could be 1, 2 or 3 depending on the TD's choice) and the player with the higher score advances.
- If you run a full rack, you shoot another rack (You do not have to make one on break to continue).
- In a 2 or 3 rack tournament - if the person who goes first is leading by 10 or more balls going into the final rack - the losing player goes first in the final round. This is to potentially save time and not make the winning player go unless needed. Example: If player 1 shoots first and is winning 35-24 after 2 racks, the players switch and player 2 goes first in rack 3 to try to tie/take lead to force player 1 to shoot.
- Rack Runners - Prison
- Same as regular RR except you can only pot stripes!
- Break does not count as a shot
- If you dont make a stripe, your turn is over
- Once you make all 7 stripes and the 8, you may start a new rack
- Rodeo
- Play On Rated & Protected Tables
- Pocket your stripes or solids like normal, all rules are regular until the 8 ball
- First attempt on 8 ball for both players is the top left corner. If missed, the next attempt is the top middle pocket. This goes in rotation til it is made (Top Left, Top Middle, Top Right, Bottom Right, Bottom Middle, Bottom left
- Please note that you each must shoot at a pocket before you shoot at the next. Its possible someone, for example, is on their 3rd attempt and is on the top right and you are making your first attempt at the top left pocket.
- A safety or tap on the 8 ball is considered a shot and your pocket moves to the next.
- Rotation
- You must pot your balls by rotating the pockets clockwise.
- For example, you pot your first ball in the top right pocket; you must pot your second ball in the bottom right pocket, third ball in bottom middle pocket and so on until you have made all of your balls and the 8 ball in a clockwise pattern.
- Failure to advance to the next pocket clockwise will result in giving BIH to your opponent.
- Play continues until winner pots 8-ball in the correct rotated pocket.
